Is Your HVAC Sytem Appropriate for the Age of Your Home?

Is your twickenham-national-regsiter-signjpg-53adb4c3c4eb7579HVAC system appropriate for the age of your home?
A housing survey conducted by the U.S. Census
in 2009 found the median age of American houses
to be 36 years, with 22.9 percent of homes built
during the 1950s and 1960s.

The median age of homes also depends heavily on
the area of the country. Homes in the Northeast
are older, with a median age of 51 years. This isn’t
a surprising statistic for old house or history buffs,
as homes built in the early to mid-1800s are common in the New England states.

Homes in the South, including the Tennessee Valley area, tend to be younger, with a median age
of 31 years. Most homeowners don’t think about their heating or air conditioning system and whether or not it is adequate for their home until something breaks and is in need of repair, or it simply quits working all together.

If your home is more than 10 years old and your HVAC system hasn’t been replaced for as long as you
can remember, considering an updated, more efficient model will save you money on your energy bill
and maybe more importantly, make your home more comfortable for you and your family.
If your current HVAC system has a SEER rating of 10 or below, replacing it with a system with a 20
SEER rating will make your system 50% more efficient. Today’s systems also come with advanced
technology that helps maintain a comfortable humidity level and provides cleaner air to breathe in your
home.

Replacing your home’s HVAC system, even though it may seem to be working properly, might be a
similar situation such as trading in an older model automobile. A new model will probably get better gas
milage, it won’t break down as often, it has a warranty, and it makes you and your family more
comfortable.
