What Happens When An AC Technician Services Your Home?

screen-capture-2We’re approaching the Fall season and cooler weather. However, in mid-September, temperatures in the South still tend to be rather warm. In fact, it might be several more weeks before you need to turn your home’s heating system on for the first time.
When that time occurs, the majority of the time there are no issues. Occasionally, when firing up your heating system for the first time of the season, you flip the switch to “heat” and nothing happens. Or, something is causing the heat not to come on and warm your home properly.
The best time to have your home’s heating (and cooling) system checked is in-between seasons. You might still need your AC for a few more weeks, but now is the time to make sure your heating system is ready when that first cold snap hits.
Unexpected repairs can be tough to manage financially, and preventative maintenance can help to keep them at bay.  Bunn’s and Bennett HVAC recommends having a regularly scheduled maintenance plan in place and having your system checked out at least two times per year.

Routine maintenance on your home’s comfort system can be compared to routine maintenance on your automobile. Keeping both in tip-top running condition by having them serviced regularly will save you a substantial amount of money in the long run.
When an HVAC technician tunes up and/ or checks out your system, what is he looking for and services does he perform?
A standard HVAC tune-up will include three basic phases: inspection, cleaning and service. The service may or may not include repairs; it depends on whether problems are detected during the inspection phase.

HVAC System Inspection

The HVAC technician will begin by inspecting your equipment. You can have everything tuned up during a single visit, or you can have the air conditioner serviced at one time of year and the furnace serviced at another time. However you have it done, an inspection will be performed. This is when the tech will look for signs of wear and tear. In the case of a furnace, he will examine the compressor, look at the motor and ensure that all other components are in good shape.

Furnace/ Heating System Cleaning

Cleaning of the system should be included. Even if you’re diligent about changing the air filter on a regular basis, the technician will need to clean your system to keep it in tip-top condition.

HVAC Service

This is where you really get your money’s worth. If problems are detected in your heating system (or AC system), the technician will correct them on the spot. This may involve replacing worn-out parts to keep them from causing serious damage later. If refrigerant levels are low, the tech will look for leaks and recharge your system. Parts like capacitors and fan blades may be swapped out to ensure consistent and efficient operation. It’s far better to do these small, affordable things preemptively than it is to wait until they devolve into serious problems.

Bunn’s & Bennett HVAC offers their own plan which involves regularly scheduled maintenance for your home’s comfort system two times per year. It’s called the Bunn’s and Bennett Service Program®.
