4 Points to Keep in Mind While Changing Your AC Filter

Are you planning on changing your AC filter?

The AC filter is one of the most important parts of the AC unit therefore you need to keep some important points in mind while changing it. This will ensure that your AC unit functions at its top ability. We have listed the points to keep in mind while changing your AC filter below…

1. FIGURE OUT YOUR AC FILTER’S TYPE:

There are two types of AC filters washable and replaceable. The washable ones can be cleaned with water. The replaceable ones need to be replaced. So take a look at your model and decide whether the filter is of the washable variety or not. You don’t want to make the mistake of buying a new filter, only to realize that you could have just cleaned it by washing.

2. CHECK THE SIZE:

AC filters come in different sizes. So before you go and buy one check the size of AC unit model’s filter. If you are unable to locate this information, use a measuring tape to measure the size of the filter.

3. WHAT’S YOUR MERV?

Changing Your AC Filter

Find what your AC filter’s minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) is. This is scored with numbers between 1 and 12. The higher the score the better filtration the filter provides. Always use a filter with a MERV score that is recommended for your AC unit as a higher score means that the filter is finer. This will require your AC unit to use more energy to pull air into it. If you install the wrong filter, it could cause your AC unit to strain itself which could lead to it malfunctioning. So only choose the recommended filter.

4. REPLACE EVERY MONTH:

Replace or clean your AC filter every month for best results. You don’t want to wait too long as it will only lead to it straining itself to pull the air past all the dirt stuck in it.

Following the above 4 tips will ensure that you install the right AC filter to get your AC unit to perform at its best.
